To Lose is To Gain . . .
Mother's Day has always been special to me because I have had the blessing of wonderful motherly figures in my life. After becoming a mother myself, Mother's Day has become extra special; not because I crave the recognition from others through "Happy Mother's Day" texts or gifts, but because of the recognition and reflection it causes within myself. Through the tough moments where I'm exhausted and overwhelmed, and through the amazing milestone moments and everyday beauties, I have come to recognize just how much motherhood is truly worth celebrating and being proud of. It's truly amazing how a woman can lose an old version of herself, and gain a new one with motherhood. There are sacrifices in motherhood, but so much that is gained through it! To me, no achievement will live up to being a mother, and no ministry will be quite as central in my life.
My Motherly Figures -
Just a small bit of who they are to me:
Mom
Proverbs 31:30
Mom teaches me everyday about loving unconditionally. She teaches me about the importance of transparency and honesty in relationships. She keeps me grounded when I'm putting too much pressure on myself and helps me not to hold small things with too much weight. She is there for me when I need a hand, and reminds me to breathe. She has hard conversations with me, and challenges me to grow closer to the LORD. She's taught me that, even though the primary role of a mother is to guide and teach, it is possible to do that while also being a most special friend.
Grandma "B"
Proverbs 31:31
Grandma "B" shows me the importance of serving others sacrificially and being there for others when they need it. She teaches me about working hard, and the importance of giving myself grace as I learn new things. She helps me grow through creativity, and helps me learn to do practical things like crocheting, sewing, and gardening.
Grandma Sandy
Proverbs 31:20

Grandma Sandy has shown me the importance of a generous spirit. She is gentle and kind in the way she handles others. She is a peacemaker, and a humble servant.
Amber
Proverbs 31:26

Amber has taught me what it looks like to accept a daughter-in-law as a daughter-in-love. I hope to accept my son's wives one day as she has accepted me. She is joyful, and does not fear for what the future brings.

A Message to Mamas:
To new mamas in the thick of it, to the mamas of adult children who are learning to navigate this stage, to the grandmas who get to experience motherhood in a new way, and to ALL mamas who love their children fiercely - keep showing your children what it looks like to love like a mama, no matter what stage you are in. In the middle of the simple moments, as well as the special ones, remember that your work will be worth it, has been worth it, and will always be worth it. Every ounce of effort to love, teach, and grow with your children is seen.
Today, celebrate what your efforts achieve, and acknowledge that motherhood is truly a gift from God.
